Firefighters tackled a chemical leak at a municipal swimming pool in Kent this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 6.30am with reports of chlorine seeping from the purification plant at the complex in Newington Road, Ramsgate.

A spokesman for Thanet Leisure Force, which operates the facility, said the main pool will remain closed until further notice, although the training pool is not affected by the leak.

A specialist incident support unit from Ashford attended along with fire and rescue service teams from Ramsgate (retained) and Margate.
