Chris Kinnear has been appointed Margate manager - five years after he left the club.

Kinnear is arguably the most successful manager in Margate's history and he returns to Hartsdown Park in time for Saturday's Ryman League Premier Division home match with Lowestoft.

The former Dover manager was in charge at Margate for nearly 10 years after originally being appointed in 1996. He led the club to the first round of the FA Cup the following year when they played Fulham and also to the second round in 2002 when they met Cardiff.

In addition to cup success, Margate were also promoted to the Football Conference while Kinnear was in charge and they will no doubt be hoping for similar success second time around.

Margate director Cliff Egan said: “We’re delighted to have Chris back at the club; he obviously has a proven track record.

“It has taken a little longer than we expected to put everything in place, including contacting all the other candidates for the manager’s job to explain our decision.”

Caretaker Manager Kevin Raine had been in charge of the club while they appointed a new boss following the departure of Iain O'Connell.

Margate, who have been through five managers in the last five years since Kinnear's original exit, are 15th in the Ryman League Premier Division with three games left to play.

Will Chris Kinnear be a success at Margate? Was he right to go back? Have your say in our comments section below.
