A two-day face-off between eco activists and an energy giant is under way - but there was no sign of any demonstrators at Kent's Kingsnorth power station today.

The 48 hours of action is the first major salvo of a new campaign to stop the construction of a new coal-fired power plant near Hoo.

But protesters have gathered outside E.ON's London office. Camp for Climate Action is leading a series of demonstrations with the aim of damaging the energy giant's brand.

The protests have been organised to coincide with the second round of the FA Cup, which is sponsored by E.ON, and campaigners are being urged to target FA Cup matches on Saturday as well as all E.ON related businesses.

It has not been revealed if the campaigners plan any sort of action at the power station.

Around 50 protesters gathered outside E.ON's London headquarters in Pall Mall at 8am Friday, waving banners and handing out anti-E.ON leaflets.

The World Development Movement led a children's demonstration. Youngsters have been adding their footprints to a No New Coal banner and will march to Pall Mall to join the other protesters outside E.ON's offices.

Students from Warwick University marched to E.ON's headquarters in Coventry to protest outside the building.
