Copper cabling stolen from building site

THIEVES have stolen £2,000 of copper cabling from a construction site in Cliftonville, near Margate.

The criminals entered the Foreness Point water treatment plant site near Princess Walk, overnight on February 2-3, and made off with the cables.

Two Margate men, aged 43 and 45, were arrested on the promenade nearby at 8am and have been bailed until March 6 pending further enquiries.

The high price of copper means that criminals have been striking at sites across the country, stealing piping and even electrical cabling.

Anyone who witnessed the theft or saw anything suspicious around the lower promenade area near Palm Bay Avenue between 7am and 8am on February 3 is asked to contact DC Merv Marsh at Margate police station on 01843 222091.
