Maidstone Crown Court

A father killed a young love rival with a single stab wound after plotting to meet him late at night in Faversham recreation ground, a court heard.

Ricky Mount thrust a knife into teenager Adam Beaney's heart before eventually running off. The 19-year-old victim died shortly afterwards. Mount's mother, Maxine Liddle, 44, later helped him by disposing of his clothes and the murder weapon, it was alleged.

Maidstone Crown Court heard Mount, 21, bore a grudge against Mr Beaney because he was going out with his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Alicia Stankovich.

Eleanor Laws, prosecuting, said Mount was in a three-year relationship with Miss Stankovich and they had a daughter in January 2008.

They parted in October that year and Mount moved in with pal Jamie Bullock. But he found the separation hard to accept and was abusive towards Miss Stankovich.

On one occasion, she reported him to the police for harassing her. About three months after the split, she started a relationship with Mr Beaney.

"Ricky Mount found this relationship hard to cope with and understand she no longer wanted to be with him," Miss Laws told a jury of six men and six women.

"He also resented the presence of Adam Beaney and any access he had to his daughter. The Crown say he started to harass them both."

In one incident Mount attempted to punch Mr Beaney but missed. Mr Beaney (pictured right) retaliated and punched Mount to the ground.

Mount, of Edward Vinson Drive, Faversham, denies murder. Liddle, of Lewis Close, Faversham, denies assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

The trial continues.
