A BABY girl seriously injured in a traffic accident yesterday afternoon appears to be making good progress and is now off the critical list, police confirmed today.

The one-year-old child was one of six people hurt following a collision between two cars in Hampstead Lane, Yalding, near Maidstone.

She was taken by Kent Air Ambulance to Maidstone Hospital, having suffered what police described at the time as life-threatening injuries. A woman injured in the collision was also airlifted to hospital.

A spokeswoman for Maidstone and Malling Police said the baby girl had enjoyed a good night and had begun to show signs of recovery.

Doctors remained concerned for her health this morning but following checks earlier today have taken her the critical list. Her condition is now described as "stable".

A two-year-old child and a three-year old child and two adults inside one of two Vauxhall Vectras involved in the midday smash also suffered minor injuries.

The injured woman was kept in hospital overnight for observation but her injuries are not considered to be serious.

A stretch of road between Hampstead Lane and Lees Road was shut for a period while investigations into the cause of the accident were conducted.
