A 32-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after his car rolled on to its roof.

The man is in the intensive therapy unit at Margate's Queen Mother Hospital following the crash on the A28 on the outskirts of Birchington and St Nicholas at Wade.

The man, from the Monkton area, had to be released from his Honda by firefighters just before the A299 roundabout at 7pm on Tuesday. Police say no other vehicles were involved.

Police officers assisted fire and ambulance crews in removing the driver who suffered a serious head injury.

Police closed the road at Brooks End, diverting traffic along Seamark Road to the A299. The road was re-opened at about 9.45pm.
