Dagenham manager John Still accuses the Gills of trying to unsettle striker Paul Benson

Gillingham have been accused of trying to unsettle Dagenham striker Paul Benson.

The Gills claim to have made an offer for the 30-year-old but Daggers boss John Still insists no serious offer was ever tabled.

"At no time have Gillingham made a serious offer for Paul Benson," said Still.

"Paul is very happy here at Dagenham & Redbridge FC and all Gillingham are trying to do is unsettle the player."

Benson netted 21 goals for the Daggers last season and Stimson was keen to add him to his League 1 squad.

He is just one player on Gillingham manager Mark Stimson’s list, however, and a cash offer for another striker is also on the table.

Stimson (pictured) said: "We’re speaking with another striker. We’ve got a figure that we think is about right."
