Deadline day for club's drinks licence

Supporters of Rainham Cricket Club have less than 24 hours to call on Medway Council to renew the club’s drinks licence.

A local resident is said to oppose renewal on the grounds of preventing crime, disorder and public nuisance.

But other residents say the club, in Tufton Road, creates none of these problems. One said that if the licence were not renewed, the club would disappear.

He said that if the club were to close, other youth organisations based on the site would also have to go including Scouts, Cubs and Beavers.

The club’s application must be in by 5pm on Tuesday.
