POLICE say they are not treating as suspicious the death of a 70-year-old man found in an alleyway in Folkestone on Friday.

The man, thought to be a former Gurkha, had suffered knife wounds.

He was found in an alleyway off Marler Road, Cheriton, behind Rocheforts Newsagents, at around 2.10pm.

Police cordoned off the area while forensics officers carried out an investigation. Marler Road and Geraldine Road remained closed for the rest of the day.

Early reports suggest the man may have taken his own life in front of several people.

Local resident Stuart Peet told KentOnline: "I'm not sure on what has happened but Marler Road is currently cordoned off with an area behind the high street shops screened with white sheets."

On Saturday police said they were not treating the death as suspicious. A post mortem will be held in the next few days.
