Wally Downes has joined the coaching staff at West Ham after a brief time helping Gillingham’s defence.

The former Brentford boss will take the role of defensive coach for Avram Grant at the Premier League club.

Downes was drafted in to help coach Gillingham’s backline on a part-time basis following the FA Cup defeat to Dover.
