RUSH-hour traffic was brought to a standstill early this morning in St Peter’s near Broadstairs, after a lorry hit a tree and a telegraph pole, damaging telephone lines.

The accident happened in the high street at about 8am. The road was closed, with diversions in place, until around 10am.

Fire and rescue services from Broadstairs and Margate, police and a BT engineer were called to the scene. There were no casualties.
