Hugh Scicluna's appeal to Croydon Council was unsuccecssful

DIABETIC Hugh Scicluna is fuming after being fined for parking in a bus lane - so he could buy sweets to boost his dangerously flagging blood sugar levels.

He was feeling faint at the wheel and knew he had to follow medical advice by taking something sugary to avoid causing an accident.

He parked up, bought some sweets and then continued his journey.

But little did the 66-year-old know he had been caught on camera and a £100 fine soon landed on his doormat.

Mr Scicluna of Calvery Close, Beckenham, said: "I can't believe that I'm expected to pay for my illness. It's not my fault I had to stop. If I hadn't had some sugar I could have passed out, swerved and killed someone."

Mr Scicluna has lodged an appeal with Croydon Council but was unsuccesful. He is now applying to the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service.

A spokesman for Croydon Council said: "Of course in such situations, every case has to be judged on its merits. That means with all available evidence and information receiving appropriate consideration."
