QR code launched for
Dickens' Trail

A literary trail launched today will bring Dickens' works into
the 21st century.

Fans of the author will now be able to discover his connections
to the Towns using their smart phones.

A series of QR codes - similar to barcodes - will
appear on posters and flyers available at the visitor information
centres in Rochester.

The QR codes (short for quick response) offer access to a series
of short videos filmed by Visit England.

By pointing their smart phones at the code using a QR code
reader app, visitors will be able to watch clips of the area and
discover the inspiration behind the characters and settings of
Dickens' novels, including Restoration House, the Swiss Chalet and
The Six Poor Travellers House.

The tour is introduced by Sandi Digby, who regularly leads
costumed guided walks around the various locations that inspired
Dickens.

Rochester is one of five UK destinations chosen by Visit England
to take part in the QR code pilot project, which aims to encourage
visitors to view tourist information via their smart phone devices
and spend more time in the area they are visiting.

The Dickens trail will be launched today (Monday) at
the Visitor Information Centre, Rochester High Street.
