Do you tip the people collecting your bins at Christmas?

With Brexit and Tier 4 restrictions dominating the news agenda the people of Kent appear split on another topic - whether to tip the people collecting their rubbish.

Traditionally a gift or some cash has been left out with the bins at this time of year, but is it one which has stood the test of time?

While many of you reckon after a tough 2020 chocolate, beer or money is a nice gesture others don't see why people doing certain jobs should be singled out.

Laura Marie said: "No, they don’t work 24hrs a day 365 days a year like some. Yes they work hard but no harder then other people. Let’s appreciate each other and be kind. That’s more important then any tip!"

Lisa Chester had stronger views, saying: What the same dustmen who would happily walk past any rubbish that might drop out of the bins when they’re emptying them? Not a chance.

While Christine Cornhill took the opposite stance. "I've been giving mine sweets and biscuits every 3 or 4 weeks all year. Gave them a tub of celebrations and a box of mince pies for Christmas."

Karen Arnold's view was based on practicality.

She said: "No, sorry. I'd love to, but if I tipped all of the people who work until Christmas Eve I'd have no money for Christmas!

"Whilst I appreciate them, their job is still just a job like most of us do every day. We're all cogs in the machine at the end of the day. I think a simple "thank you" should suffice.

"It's surprising how many people neglect to say thank you on a daily basis, so perhaps making the effort to say it more should be the gift?"
