Police are investigating a house fire in which a dog had to be rescued.

Firefighters from Hythe station were called to the blaze at a residential property in Hawkinge, near Folkstone, at about 3.30am this morning.

The occupants had already escaped, but crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the house to tackle the fire and brought out the family dog.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent police is investigating a suspicious fire at a residential property in Hawkinge. The fire began at 3.30am this morning, but no one was hurt."
