Dogs savage dozens of sheep and lambs at Bethersden farm

Dozens of sheep and lambs have been killed in a horrific attack by dogs.

A farm in Bethersden, near Ashford, was attacked by two alsatians last night.

Janet Stannard, who runs Bull Bridge Farm with husband Rodney, said they had lost around 32 animals.

She said: "The dogs got in with our sheep. We are clearing up the mess now."

Under the 1953 Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act it is illegal for dog-walkers to allow their pets to "worry" sheep - defined as chasing them in a way that could lead to an injury or force ewes to miscarry.

Following sheep worrying incidents last year, Tenterden and district NFU group secretary Phil Cornish said: "When dogs get the taste for blood they revert to hunting animals."
