Drink driver suspect arrested after incident in Hempstead

A driver alleged to have smashed into a wall and hit a small child has been released on bail.

Police were alerted to the incident in Hempstead Road, Hempstead, at around 3.20pm yesterday.

It followed reports that a car - which also had small children inside - had crashed into a wall.

When officers arrived a 42-year-old Gillingham man was taken into custody on suspicion of drink driving.

A spokesman for Medway police said: "Two children who were in the car at the time were taken to Medway Maritime Hosptial with bumps to the head.

"Another child who was struck by the car was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle."

The man, arrested on suspicion of drink driving, has been bailed pending further enquiries until Tuesday, May 11.
