Driver runs off after car hits motorbike in Ashford

Police are hunting a driver who fled his car after it hit a motorcyclist, who later died.

The accident happened at Canterbury Road, South Willesborough, at 5am Monday.

The driver of a 50cc motorcycle, a middle-aged local man, was taken to the William Harvey hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The driver and passenger of the car, a Ford Fiesta, left the scene and are being actively sought by officers. It is thought one may need treatment for an injury.

Serious Crash Investigation Unit (SCIU) attended the scene.

South Kent Police spokesman Rosy Alexander said: “We understand the driver of the car abandoned his vehicle and an investigation is ongoing.”

The car involved was a Ford Fiesta and the road was closed after the crash.
