THIS month, the DVLA offering the public the unique opportunity to secure the best registration numbers from virtually every potential number in the new 52 series (subject to availability).

Prices start from £399 (including VAT and assignment fee), but this is this month only. After May, DVLA will continue to offer for sale more than one million 52 registrations ahead of its on the road date of September 1.

The new 52 series alludes to an historic year in British life and a golden age when Queen Elizabeth II began her reign, when driving licenses came in a little red book and number plates had no age signifier. Despite the changes in the last 50 years, car enthusiasts have remained as fanatical as ever.

Louise Pierpoint, publicity manager for DVLA Sale of Marks, said:" A 52 personalised number could make a great gift for a 50th birthday present and we're confident it will be a success."
