A football club is in crisis after thieves broke into the stadium twice in 10 days.

Staff discovered this morning that electrical cable had been cut behind one of the stands and the copper wire was taken following a break-in.

Police officers were at Stonebridge Road this afternoon to investigate.

Fleet are due to play Southport on Saturday, but have no electricity to power the floodlights or the burger bar.

The game will go ahead after the club contacted their opponents and the Blue Square Premier to inform them of the break-in.

Club officials are now urgently working to see if they can start repair work.

In a club statement, Director Jessica McQueen said: "We only have part floodlights at the Stonebridge Road end of the ground. The cable that supplies the power at the Swanscombe end has been cut and the cable stolen."

Mrs McQueen said that fans could show their support by bringing a friend to the match on Saturday to boost attendances.

The discovery follows another break-in last weekend when lawnmowers and strimmers were taken from the groundsman's hut.
