Eurotunnel in bid to ease strike disruptions

Eurotunnel services suspended

It's crunch time today as Eurotunnel unions decide whether to take strike action this weekend.

Eurotunnel says it is doing all it can to avoid disruption on one of the busiest bank holiday weekends of the year after French staff threatened industrial action.

French unions say unless an 8% pay demand is met by today they may take action - but they haven't made it clear what form any industrial action could take.

A Eurotunnel spokesman said it will be running a normal service over the weekend and trains will be driven by British staff.

The company is still taking bookings, but is avoiding offering return journeys for this weekend.

Customers will instead be offered the chance to return next Tuesday or Wednesday instead.
