Bob Hughes: "I had a glittering career in the Met Police"

A former Metropolitan Police officer has lost his job as a community warden after being told he was "too challenging".

Bob Hughes said: "I feel mortally embarrassed. I had a glittering career in the Met Police and now this has happened."

People living in the five villages where Bob Hughes worked - Sevington, Smeeth, Brabourne, Mersham and Aldington - have spoken out in anger at losing him.

Mr Hughes, who served in the Metropolitan Police for 33 years, took the job as community warden in March - but found out at the end of last month that Kent County Council were not continuing his contract beyond his probationary period.
