Daniel Read

The family of hero soldier Capt Dan Read are organising a memorial service for him in Medway.

The former Rainham Mark Grammar School pupil was killed in Afghanistan last month.

He was serving with 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps and became a high threat improvised explosive device (IED) disposal operator.

Capt Read, who was injured in Afghanistan in October and had only just returned at the time of his death, grew up in Gillingham and went to Byron Primary School.

His dad Les Read lives in Walderslade and elder sister Rebecca Huntingford in Rainham.

They are looking ahead to the service at St Barbara's Church, Brompton on Saturday, February 27 while remembering with pride the son and brother they loved so much.

Read an exclusive family interview in Friday's Medway Messenger newspaper.
