M2 Bridge at Medway

The Port of Dover was closed for most of Saturday as high winds battered the coast.

A message on the port's website at 4.25pm said the port had re-opened, but all sailings were subject to delay, as winds were gusting at 48 knots.

Sea conditions in the Channel were said to be rough.

The closure came as high winds caused delays and difficulties throughout the county.

The M2 motorway bridge was shut today in both directions after the high winds caused two vehicles to overturn.

Police and the Highways Agency were on the scene and traffic is being turned around so it can leave the carriageway at Junction 3 for Chatham. Details of the two accidents are not yet known.

The weather has also been causing problems at Priestfield Stadium. The Gills' match against Oldham was delayed after an advertising board came loose at the top of the Gordon Road Stand.

Firefighters were called to the ground to make the board secure before kick-off.

Medway has been hit by gusts of around 50 mph as Britain is battered by its worst storm of the year.
