A FOUR-year-old girl started to choke while eating a tuna sandwich – on a false fingernail.

Adam Winch had prepared the snack for his daughter Larissa using a can of Asda own-brand tuna, when she started coughing and spluttering.

When she spat the sandwich out, the false nail was revealed.

Mr Winch, an officer with the Met Police who lives in Milton Road, Gillingham, said: "When I opened the other part of the sandwich there was another false nail and when I looked in the bowl I'd poured the tuna fish into there was another one.

"My wife Kerry doesn't wear false fingernails so it must have been in the can of tuna which I bought from the Asda store in Chatham."

Mr Winch added: "If I found three false nails in one tin how many others are out there?"

A spokesperson for Asda said: "We're sorry that the customer wasn't satisfied with this product and we will obviously carry out a full investigation.

"If Mr Winch returns the product to the Asda store where he bought it, we will send it off to the supplier for testing."
