As Kent is hit by heavy rain and strong winds this week,
firefighters are urging drivers to slow down when out and
about.

The county experienced winds of up to 70mph on Monday and
forecasters say more heavy rain and wind can be expected
tomorrow.

In a bid to encourage motorists to stay safe on the roads this
winter, Kent Fire and Rescue are holding two road safety events
this week. The first was held at Blighs Meadow in Sevenoaks.

Crew Manager Neil Thornewell said: "Sevenoaks has several busy
roads and we've seen a number of road traffic collisions, some of
which have sadly had fatal consequences.

"We hope to help educate drivers about the hazards of travelling
in rain, snow, fog and icy weather and reinforce the importance of
having clear vision and a roadworthy vehicle."

You can see footage from the event including a live rescue
demonstration by taking a look at our video report above.

The next event will take place at Halfords in Riverside Retail
Park, Otford, on Saturday.
