First step in Academy process for secondary school

ILL-FATED plans for a Crayford secondary school could be back on track after Bexley council's Public Cabinet agreed to an Expression of Interest (EoI) for an Academy in Crayford.

This approval means a draft EoI will be put together, enabling the case to be more fully developed and triggering the first step in the Academy process.

Leading sponsor for the academy will be the Habadashers' Aske's Foundation working with the Temple Grove Trust.

Proposals for a secondary school in Crayford were left hanging when plans were delayed for a year due to new legislation that meant it had to open bidding for a federation school.

Erith school had been ear-marked as the proposed federation school in the initial plans.

Due to the delay, costs increased and funding under the One school Pathfinder was no longer enough to cover the cost of the new school.

The only way of securing enough funding for the new school is through the Academy Programme.
