Police swooped on a number of locations across Kent this morning as part of a crackdown on flytipping.

Five men aged between 25 and 60 were arrested and four vehicles seized as a result of the operation, which was the culmination of months of work with local authorities.

It is estimated dumped rubbish cost local councils in Kent more than a million pounds last year and farmers in rural areas are often badly hit.

The warrants took place in Canterbury, Ramsgate, Ash and Maidstone.

Three people were reported to court.

Crime Commissioner Matthew Scott said he was doubling the size of the force's rural policing team this year to ensure there were more resources to tackle the problem.
