Flooding causes problems on roads

Published: 08:30, 04 November 2011

Tuesday's heavy rain falling on the Gore Pond, Bredgar.

Heavy showers across Kent overnight have caused problems on the roads this morning and there could be more rain on its way.

Motorists faced delays on the way to work after the approach road to the Medway tunnel and the roundabout near Medway City Estate was partially closed because of flooding.

Drivers trying to get on to the Strood industrial estate were forced to queue as traffic backed up all the way to Four Elms Hill, in Chattenden.

In the other direction, motorists travelling from the Gillingham, also faced delays as the left hand lane was closed as a large amount water had collected in the dip of the tunnel.

Traffic around the Medway Towns also seemed to crawl at a slow pace during the early morning rush-hour traffic, and some parts of The Esplanade, in Rochester, are flooded.

Earlier this morning, a section of the M2 London bound between junction 5 and 4 also had to be shut, but it has now re-opened.

More heavy rain is predicted throughout the day but forecasters say it should turn drier tonight.
