A yellow weather warning for rain no longer applies to Kent following flooding fears.

The second alert in as many days came into force from midnight until 6pm today and was supposed to cover the whole county.

Residents were initially told flooding could cause travel disruption amid the downpours, while commuters were urged to plan their journeys.

But the Met Office confirmed today the conditions in Kent are not due to be as severe as originally thought, with the area affected by the warning no longer covering the county.

The agency has advice on its website on how people in the affected area can be best prepared.

The warning was the second this week for the county, following an alert on Tuesday afternoon.

The poor weather resulted in flooding on the M20 yesterday, causing two lanes to close on the coastbound carriageway between Junction 9 and 10 in Ashford.

It sparked long delays and a two-mile-long tailback on the motorway.
