Flood warning for homes along the Stour around Plucks Gutter and Grove Ferry. between Canterbury and Thanet

Residents have been warned to expect an "imminent risk of flooding" this afternoon - and been told to stay alert to the threat into Monday.

The Environment Agency has updated the warning along the tidal River Stour and warns there is a "threat of internal flooding to riverside properties" around Plucks Gutter and Grove Ferry, just outside Canterbury.

Heavy rainfall has sparked the warning (44193250)

The flood warning comes after several days of heavy rainfall combining with a period of spring tides.

The next high tide at Plucks Gutter will be around 2.45pm today (Sunday) with high tide at Grove Ferry around 3.15pm.

It follows warnings of potential flooding overnight - with warnings today's tide is expected to be even higher.

Environment Agency chiefs, who say they are monitoring the situation carefully, say the flood warning will remain in force overnight and into Monday. It warned it could also stretch into Tuesday.

Other flood alert warnings - where residents are told flooding is possible - remains in place for the Stour around Ashford, the Medway around Yalding, the Darent between Westerham and Dartford and rivers on Sheppey.
