Train enthusiasts old and young were delighted by exhibits at this year’s Canterbury and District Model Engineering Society open day.

The miniature railway locomotives and traction engines on display at Brett’s Quarries in Sturry were built or owned by members of the society.

They included models ranging from tank engines once found on branch lines to main line express locomotives seen at the head of the country’s crack express trains.

Others running included miniature traction engines, road locomotives and steam rollers.

Chairman of the society Paul Kemp said: “The day is an opportunity for members of the public to come and see what we do.

“Our locomotives seem to appeal to those of all ages from those old enough to be able to remember the days of steam to the very young.

“All the engines on the track and around the site were kept very busy hauling passengers and it was amazing how many people stayed all day.”
