A gang attacked a young man, hitting him over the head with a plank before kicking and punching him as he lay on the floor.

The 19-year-old student was walking home alone on Sunday at about 2am after popping to the BP Garage in Milton Road, Gravesend with a friend to buy cigarettes.

As he headed home he came across six Asian and white young men in West Crescent Road.

He was taken to hospital with a serious injury where he is in a stable condition.
