Gillingham midfielder Jack Payne has been made available for transfer.

Boss Martin Allen has made the decision after being unable to guarantee the 20-year-old regular first team football.

Allen revealed the decision on the club’s website on Friday.

He said: “I feel his opportunities here are now limited.”

Payne (pictured) has featured in the majority of the club’s matches this season and started the last three.

He came through the youth ranks, being promoted to the senior side early on, after excelling as a scholar.

The player agreed a contract extension under previous boss Andy Hessenthaler almost exactly a year ago, extending it by two years, until the summer of 2015.

But Allen feels his future now lies away from Priestfield.

He added: “At times I have to make tough decisions but I have to do what is best for the football club and I feel this will be best for Jack in the long term.”

Payne has made 15 appearances this season and has scored twice.
