Gillingham's goalkeepers are getting valuable coaching thanks to the recent arrival of Stuart Murdoch.

The former Wimbledon manager has been putting Lance Cronin and Alan Julian (pictured) through their paces on a twice-weekly basis and hopes his input with make a difference.

The Gills haven’t had a regular goalkeeping coach since Scott Barrett left the club. He combined that role with one of assistant manager to Mark Stimson.

Murdoch has coached goalkeepers at several and experienced a roller-coaster managerial reign during the demise of Wimbledon and the subsequent move to Milton Keynes.

He said: "It’s hard to coach yourself and who is there to tell them what they are doing wrong? Who will tell them what they need to improve on and where they’ve made mistakes?

"It’s hard for the goalkeepers to coach each other and take criticism from each other.

"I’m not one to dictate to people. I like to get the goalkeepers to think and I’ll ask questions. If I don’t get an answer, I’ll give them something that might be of some help.

"It can just be about small things like starting positions and angles and just about making minor adjustments."
