Manager Andy Hessenthaler aims to steer Gillingham back on course on Saturday when they travel to managerless Stockport.

The Gills boss saw his team’s winning run end at Wycombe on Monday and he’s hoping that defeat was just a blip.

"We have to go to Stockport and bounce straight back," said Hessenthaler (pictured).

"That’s the sign of a good side. If you want to be pushing come the end of the season, that’s what you’ve got to do.

"That was a problem we were having when we had a bad spell. We did win games in the rough spell and we needed to carry it on but we didn’t."

Before Wycombe, the Gills had gone on a five-game winning run and they reach the halfway point of their League 2 campaign this week sitting just outside the play-off places.

"Let’s hope we can go up there, get the three points and put ourselves into that top seven," added Hessenthaler.

Joe Martin is Hessenthaler’s biggest injury concern. Barry Fuller (groin) should be fit but Dennis Oli (hamstring), Chris Palmer (knee), Tony Sinclair (foot) and Jack Payne (ankle) remain sidelined.

Do you think Gills can get back to winning ways at the first attempt? Have your say below.
