Gillingham captain Barry Fuller

Gillingham captain Barry Fuller has been given a 50-50 chance of making it for the start of the new league season.

Boss Andy Hessenthaler feels that Fuller could yet defy the experts who had warned him that he faces around a month of the sidelines.

Fuller (pictured) picked up knee ligament damage in the pre-season friendly at Ebbsfleet last week.

Hessenthaler said: "They (doctors) are saying four weeks but Barry is quite a quick healer so he still could be available for Saturday week and we’ll wait and see.

"He could be back - It’s 50-50 at the moment."

Fuller missed the final few weeks of last season with a broken nose.

The Gills start their League 2 campaign at home against Cheltenham on Saturday, August 7.

Who would you like to see replace Fuller if he can't make the start of the season? Comment below.
