A good work-out was how Andy Hessenthaler described Gillingham's 4-0 win over cross-channel neighbours Calais.

The Gills boss, pictured, was left frustrated before kick-off due to a mix-up over the start time and witnessed five of his players being booked in an ill-tempered affair.

"Preparation wasn’t fantastic as there was a little misunderstanding on the kick-off time," he said.

"They were saying it was five o’clock and I had confirmation in the morning that it was half three.

"We delayed it until four and we wanted a game because we knew there would be quite a few fans coming over.

"It was a good work-out and in the end the last 15 minutes became a non-event really.

"A lot of them played 45 minutes and a few played a lot more. It got a little naughty at times, but they looked after themselves.

"I think it was like that last year, with challenges going in, and we don’t want to be losing players at this stage of the season.

"All in all I’m delighted and it was a great turn out from the fans to travel and watch."
