Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has warned fans not to panic over the lack of new faces at Priestfield.

The Gills boss, pictured, has yet to make any new signings since being appointed more than three weeks ago, but is not overly concerned and still believes he will build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

“I’m no closer to bringing anyone in at the moment,” he said.

“I’m not fazed by that, most clubs will have an odd signing but the majority will be signed in pre-season.

“It’s still early stages of bringing players in, I’m sure the fans are all waiting to see what faces we bring in. There will be some – just be patient.”

Hessenthaler is also aware that if he rushes in now he may not have anything left in his budget by the start of the season.

“We’ll take our time and get the right people. You could end up using all the budget and then someone comes along near the end of pre-season, so you have to be careful.”
