Martin Allen admits he was disappointed not to have been able to have a chat with one disgruntled Gillingham ‘fan’.

The Gills boss, pictured, has received plenty of support this season but admits there are still some who aren’t happy, including one who wrote in before Saturday’s match against Accrington.

Allen said: “I had a wonderful letter from a supporter who told me the results were rubbish and we have to go and sign a striker. It did make me smile. ‘The results have been rubbish blah, blah, blah’.

“I write back to everyone. People ask me about the team, write to me about their life or their problems and some ask about Monty (my dog). I always take the time to write back and sometimes, if they leave me their number, I call them for a chat.

“What a shame he never left his address. If he did, I would have been straight round there knocking on his door – ‘hi, can we have a chat over a cup of tea’ – can you imagine? No name, no address, no number.

“I live around here and see and talk to a lot of Gillingham fans and I don’t think they can be unhappy.

“We are doing our best to keep in touch with the supporters and we respect those real people.”
