Gillingham's Danny Jackman will not need surgery on knee injury

Danny Jackman could return to the Gillingham matchday squad within a fortnight after surgery on an injury was ruled out.

A knee problem has hindered him since pre-season and scans showed cartilage damage and there were fears he would need to be operated on.

Those fears, however, proved unfounded and the versatile midfielder should be back soon.

Boss Andy Hessenthaler said: “It’s just an injection which is good news but it will still be a week or so – but no operation, no key hole surgery.

“He could get a run out against Southend in the Johnstone’s Paint game. We’ll wait and see.”
