Curtis Weston hit the equalising goal in the 1-1 draw at Crewe on Saturday and warned those sides above Gillingham that they are closing in.

The Gills ended the afternoon just four points off the automatic promotion spots, and with only two defeats in 15 games they remain the team on the charge in League 2.

The midfielder's second-half strike (pictured) levelled the match against promotion-rivals Crewe after an own goal from Tony Sinclair had put them behind.

Weston said: "In the last 15 games we’ve only had two losses and we are on a little unbeaten run now. If we lose one we bounce back and that’s the sign of a good team.

"Other teams will be looking over their shoulder and thinking, ‘they could be the team to get into the promotion spot’ and hopefully we can get it.

"Automatic promotion is what we want and we’re just four points off it now.

"We are joint fifth and four points off third. We want that place and if we can beat Bury next weekend then that could take us above them."
