A 12-foot sailing dinghy is recovered by the lifeboat station shore party after the Whitstable Lifeboat towed the craft ashore

A man and his grandson had a lucky escape after their dinghy capsized off Whitstable on Monday.

The buoyancy tank on the 12-foot craft became flooded and the 69-year-old and his seven-year-old grandson were thrown into the water.

But they were rescued by passing windsurfers and taken ashore while Whitstable’s volunteer lifeboat crews were scrambled.

The Oxford Town and Gown towed the semi-submerged and inverted craft back to the harbour where it was recovered.

It was the 13th call of the year for the lifeboat.
