Gritters will be treating the roads overnight with temperatures expected to drop below zero.

In preparation for this, Kent County Council Highways’ teams will be out to prevent ice and frost causing problems for drivers.

Gritters are getting lined up to treat our roads in preparation for the cold weather

Last night the Met Office recorded lows of around -1 degrees across the county and it is only meant to continue into this evening as lows of -5 are predicted.

The government agency explained the reason for the cold snap attributing it to the cold air coming over from Scandinavia.

The council has issued a warning which says: “Motorists are advised to watch out for icy patches/stretches, particularly on untreated roads, and should expect the surface to be slippery.

“They should drive cautiously and be deliberate and slower in actions and not be surprised by ‘sudden’ traffic light changes or other vehicles braking.

“Harsh braking, harsh steering, or harsh acceleration are key precursors to skidding on ice and snow.

The gritters will hit the roads tonight in preparation for predicted sub-zero temperatures

“Plan ahead, drive slower, brake in good time.”
