Gritters to be deployed across Kent as road temperatures fall

The gritters are set to be out and about the county this week as the mercury drops.

It's unlikely the roads will require gritting throughout the course of this evening and Monday as surface temperatures are expected to stay above 1C.

However, according to Kent County Council, its gritter fleet will be deployed on Tuesday and Wednesday as road surface temperatures are expected to fall below freezing.

On Thursday, temperatures are set to rise and the roads are predicted to remain dry.

The news follows suggestions from the Met Office that the country could be in for snow at the end of the month.

It said there was "a greater than normal chance of a change to much colder weather occurring during this period, with an increasing likelihood of frost, fog and snow".

In February last year, Kent felt the full force of the Beast from the East with schools closed and roads blocked for several days in the heaviest snow this century.
