Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book

Hollywood came to town when filming for the final Harry Potter movies took place at the Dartford Crossing.

The tunnel is normally anything but magic, but that was not the case when cast and crew from the blockbusting series took over for its last instalment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Scenes filmed include a dramatic chase showing the young Hogwarts wizard, played by Daniel Radcliffe, weaving between traffic on a "flying" sidecar with magical school caretaker Hagrid, played by Robbie Coltrane.

It is believed many of the scenes were shot by stunt doubles.

But the tunnel’s usual traffic was unaffected by the dangerous pursuit - filming has taken place during planned tunnel maintenance closures, which take place overnight several times a week.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said its contract with film makers Warner Bros was "pretty tight", which meant he was unable to release many details. But he could confirm: "The Highways Agency has given permission to Warner Bros for filming to take place during a short period in July."

The scenes are due to be seen in the conclusion of the fantasy film franchise, based on the books by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final book, is set to be split into two films, to be shown in cinemas in November 2010 and July 2011.
