Residents and businesses are being urged to take part in a consultation about the issue of illegal traveller camps.

It comes as Tonbridge and Malling MP Tom Tugendhat spoke about the impact the travelling community has had on people in his constituency.

He revealed he regularly hears complaints from constituents about the length of time it takes to remove unauthorised encapments and the lack of enforcement options available to the council and police.

Complaints have been made about recent illegal traveller encampments in Leybourne and West Malling

"You will not be surprised to hear that this issue is not just important locally, but to many other across the country too," he said.

A government consultation entitled Unauthorised Traveller encampments ends tomorrow night, as Joe Coshan reports.
