Dover manager Ian Hendon

Dover have announced former Barnet boss Ian Hendon as their new manager.

The 38-year-old, who was sacked by the League 2 club a month ago, has signed a one-year deal, with a view to extending it in January, at the Blue Square South club.

Nicky Southall will be staying at Crabble as player/assistant manager, but Darren Hare has turned down the chance to remain as part of the backroom staff and is leaving the club.

Former Spurs full-back Hendon (pictured), an ex-England under-21 international, said: "I'm very excited by this job - that's an understatement.

"The chairman is obviously ambitious and he wants this club moving forward. I'm a young manager, I'm ambitious and I want to move forwards and upwards with Dover.

Dover chairman Jim Parmenter described his new manager as - "a real Mr 100 per cent."

He said: "Ian's task is probably a little bit tougher than Andy's (Hessenthaler)when he came to the club because we were at a much lower level then and the momentum was easier to get going.

"Ian's got a big challenge but I know his attitude's good and he's going to get 100 per cent out of the players and we'll be pushing for promotion."
