ID cards 'key weapon against terrorism'

MP GWYN PROSSER: convinced it's a good idea

THE plan for compulsory ID cards in Britain is moving a step closer. About 10,000 volunteers will take part in initial trials.

They will have their faces and eyes scanned and their fingerprints taken.

Civil liberties groups claim the Home Secretary David Blunkett is effectively introducing an identity tax.

But the plans are also seen as a key weapon in the fight against terrorism, as Dover MP Gwyn Prosser told KM-fm.
